MINDGAME #10 TEST YOUR PSYCHIC ABILITY Duke University professor Dr. Joseph Banks Rhine (1896-1980) is considered to be the "Father of Parapsychology." Parapsychology is also known as Extrasensory Perception (ESP) a term that was coined by Dr. Rhine. ESP refers to such alleged abilities as telepathy (mind reading), clairvoyance ("clear seeing"), clairaudience (extrasensory hearing), precognition (knowledge of future events), and psychokinesis (mind over matter).

Rhine Conducting An Early ESP Experiment In 1930, to test for telepathy and clairvoyance, a colleague and Duke University Professor of Pyschol;ogy, Dr. Karl Zener, devised a set of cards imprinted with five symbols: circle, square, star, plus sign, and wavy lines. Each symbol was repeated five times creating a deck of twenty-five cards. In some tests a subject would try and guess the order of a shuffled deck of the symbols. In other tests a "sender" would look at each card one at a time, concentrating on its design, while a "receiver" would attempt to telepathically divine the symbol. Today Zener cards are usually called "ESP Cards." They are still used by parapsychologists who test for these elusive phenomenona. To date, ESP has not been established scientifically, despite frequent claims otherwise. The following test is based on the original Zener card test. It is intended to test your ability to predict future events since the symbol is not revealed until after you have made your choice. The accuracy of the result increases with the number of guesses that you make. The significance level is determined by a formula that was used with the original Zener tests:
